Krisis di Libya | Dari Kacamata Rusli Othman

Salam.

The protests started on Wednesday, 16th Feb 2011 at Benghazi (2nd largest city in Libya and 1,000 km NE from Tripoli). These protests commemorate the victims that had been killed in 1996 (also in Benghazi). The protesters called for second marches/protests on Thursday 17th February in Benghazi and Tripoli, but was postponed to 18th February in Benghazi and Gaddafi organized his supporters to counter the opposittions at Green Square on that day in Tripoli to show that he still has the supports from the people (I could not upload our pictures taken at the rally on the facebook because been blocked since Saturday). About fifty protestors been killed in Benghazi but that does not deter the growing numbers of protestors showing up on Saturday, 19th February at Benghazi. My colleague from Benghazi told me on Sunday that about two hundreds protestors were killed and more than 700 hundreds wounded by Gaddafi's security forces mostly non-Muslims African mercenaries on Saturday night alone. The story was confirmed by video footage at PressTV showing the massacres and one of the security forces killed by the protestors.

Turkey immediately sent three planes to demobilize its citizens from Benghazi but there are more than 25,000 Turkish in Libya. South Korea is preparing an emergency evacuation plan for its citizens in view of hundreds of Libyans (mostly "opportunists") stormed and looted a few of Koreans construction sites in Tripoli on Sunday.

We have a meeting with our Malaysian Ambassador on the evacuation plan of about 190 Malaysians as directed by Malaysia PM. The Embassay is having a hard time to gather the Malaysians because the internet bandwith been cut to minimum since Saturday morning and no internet line most of the time, the AlMadar telephone network is out of service most of the time and only Libyana telephone network can still be used. Unfortunately, most of the Malaysians are using AlMadar. Malaysia could not send airplane to Libya because the air space request was not granted. The airport was closed since Monday and so does all the Government offices. Traveling out by land through Tunisia is not an alternative because the news this morning at Tunisian border reported that the army confiscate mobile phones, camera, money and allvaluables from the Tunisian going back home through the border. Now, we only have the sea as our last alternative. This can only succeed if our convoy been escorted by the Libyan army to Tripoli port and provided that the Malaysia's ship is allowed to enter the port.

So far it is still safe for the Malaysian and other Nationals in Tripoli because the situation is still under control by the government. I met a group of demonstrators (about 300) at Zawiyah freeway on my way back from my work sites at Sabratah to Tripoli on Sunday afternoon and I stopped the car at the road shoulders waiting for the group to passed by. I thought they are Gaddafi's supporters because I met three seperate groups at three different cities on my way to my work site in the morning. But it turned out vise versa when I saw them tearing down the Billboard and Gaddafi's posters as they marched toward me. Alhamdulillah, I managed to escape unhurt except some damages to the car. I was warned earlier by the Libyan at my site that the government let the prisoners free from the prison at Zawiyah but the riots was not at the freeway. In Libya, foreigners cars can easily be identified at the registration plate.

I was told by our Libyan friend that there will be bigger groups of protestors going to Tripoli on Sunday night. We observed that the shops were closed in the late afternoon and we have to que a long line to pay our groceries at the supermarket. We heard voices and peoples shouting from our house that night and we drove out to observe but we met a few small groups of protestors shouting condemning the massacres at Benghazi and burning the posters of Gaddafi on the road. The real action only happened at the wee hours on Monday morning as we were awaken from our sleeps at about 4:30 a.m. by the noises of gunshots. We went to the streets on Monday to check and found out burning marks and debris of stones on the road. One of the police station was burned down.

Our Ambassador told us on Monday that Gaddafi has flown out of the country and there might be bigger clashes on Monday night at the center of Tripoli. We could not go out last night since we met a lot of army trucks patroling the streets and blocking the roads to center of Tripoli in the evening. We stayed up late to 3:00 a.m. this morning but it is very quiet last night. The bombing and shooting by the airstrikes happened at Benghazi but we did not hear the noises in Tripoli. Tripoli center is only about eight km away from our house.

There are riots in Sabratah town on Sunday night and my staff reported that all the heavy machineries was taken away by the rioters at one of my contractor base camp. About ten machines of graders, excavators, concrete trucks and compactors were stolen. Our site offices were ransacked and the air-conditioning units along with the computers were stolen.

But, there are no untoward incidents reported by the Malaysian until now.

Sekian berita terkini dari Tripoli, Libya. The next news, tunggu.......

Wassalam.

Sejarah Realiti: Empayar Islam hingga benua Amerika

Jika anda mengunjungi Washington DC, pergilah ke Perpustakaan Kongres (Library of Congress).

Coca-Cola Recipe Revealed - Hoax or Truth?

The formula for Coca-Cola is one of the most jealously guarded trade secrets in the world. Locked in a vault in Atlanta. Supposedly unreplicable. But we think we may have found the original recipe. And to see if the formula actually might be Coke, we made a batch.

Assuming that the claims made were true what is worth noting of course is the fact that the 7x secret ingredient contains alcohol. Millions of Muslims have been drinking this product without knowing it contains alcohol. The actual volumetric content of alcohol in coke is unclear, but does it matter? What matters is, the stuff has alcohol, and perhaps the reason for the almost addictive nature of the drink.

Anyone with additional insight on this matter is urged to come forward to share the information. Below is the recipe. You can try to make your own "coke" based on this formula and let us know how it tastes.

Support Recycling

Support Recycling:
Buy Products Made from Recycled Materials

Communities, corporations, manufacturing companies, and artists have started using recycled materials and some of the companies make new interesting and ingenious products in the last several years. Because recycling just don’t end at the curb! You may be thinking that you are doing everything to recycle at home, school or at the office.

In turn to make recycling economically practical, we must "buy recycled" products and packaging. When buying recycled products we are creating an economic incentive for recyclable materials to be collected, manufactured, and marketed as new products. Buying recycled products has both economic and environmental benefits. Buying products made from recycled materials saves resources such as trees, water, and energy.

Believe it or not, there are a lot of products made from recycled materials. You will find products in many diverse categories, including paper, plastic and rubber, oil, metals, wood, glass, construction and packaging materials, and more.

Once you know these products exist, it may make sense to look for products made from recycled materials to support and protect the environment. They not only help the environment but also help reduce the amount of trash in our garbage dumps and make and sell products that are affordable for the consumer. With a little effort, you can find and buy these products and support recycling, while saving yourself money – a win/win situation for everyone concerned!

How Hosni Mubarak Got So Rich

On Friday February 11, 2011, 5:28 pm EST
There are no Mubaraks on the Forbes list of the world's richest people, but there sure ought to be.

The mounting pressure from 18 days of historic protests finally drove Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak from office, after three decades as his nation's iron-fisted ruler. But over that time, Mubarak amassed a fortune that should finance a pretty comfortable retirement. The British Guardian newspaper cites Middle Eastern sources placing the wealth of Mubarak and his family at somewhere between $40 billion and $70 billion. That's a pretty good pension for government work. The world's richest man--Mexican business magnate Carlos Slim--is worth about $54 billion, by comparison. Bill Gates is close behind, with a net worth of about $53 billion.

Mubarak, of course, was a military man, not a businessman. But running a country with a suspended constitution for 30 years generates certain perks, and Mubarak was in a position to take a slice of virtually every significant business deal in the country, from development projects throughout the Nile basin to transit projects on the Suez Canal, which is a conduit for about 4 percent of the world's oil shipments. "There was no accountability, no need for transparency," says Prof. Amaney Jamal of Princeton University. "He was able to reach into the economic sphere and benefit from monopolies, bribery fees, red-tape fees, and nepotism. It was guaranteed profit."

Had the typical Egyptian enjoyed a morsel of that, Mubarak might still be in power. But Egypt, despite a cadre of well-educated young people, has struggled as an economic backwater. The nation's GDP per capita is just $6,200, according to the CIA--one-seventh what it is in the United States. That output ranks 136th in the world, even though Egypt ranks 16th in population. Mubarak had been working on a set of economic reforms, but they stalled during the global recession. The chronic lack of jobs and upward mobility was perhaps the biggest factor driving millions of enraged Egyptian youths into the streets, demanding change.

Estimates of Mubarak's wealth will probably be hard to verify, if not impossible (one reason dictators tend not to make it onto Forbes's annual list). His money is certainly not sitting in an Egyptian vault, waiting to be counted. And his delayed exit may have allowed Mubarak time to move money around and hide significant parts of his fortune. The Swiss government has said it is temporarily freezing any assets in Swiss banks that could be linked to Mubarak, an uncharacteristically aggressive move for the secretive banking nation. But that doesn't mean the money will ever be returned to the Egyptian people, and it may even find its way to Mubarak eventually. Other Mubarak funds are reportedly sitting in British banks, and Mubarak was no doubt wily enough to squire away some cash in unlikely places. Plus, an eventual exile deal could allow Mubarak to retain some of his wealth, no questions asked, as long as he and his family leave Egypt and make no further bids for power.

Epic skimming is a common privilege of Middle Eastern despots, and Mubarak and his two sons, Gamal and Alaa, were a bit less conspicuous than some of the Saudi princes and other Middle Eastern royals seen partying from time to time on the French Riviera or other hotspots. The family does reportedly own posh estates in London, New York, and Beverly Hills, plus a number of properties around the Egyptian resort town of Sharm El Sheikh, where Mubarak reportedly went after resigning the presidency.

Mubarak also spread the wealth far and wide in Egyptian power circles--another Middle Eastern tradition--one reason he incurred the kind of loyalty that allowed him to rule for a remarkable three decades. Top Army officials were almost certainly on his payroll, which might help explain why the Army eased him out in the end--allowing a kind of in-country exile--instead of hounding him out of Egypt or imprisoning him once it was clear the tide had turned against him for good.

That money trail, in fact, will help determine whether Egypt becomes a more prosperous, democratic country, or continues to muddle along as an economic basket case. Even though he's out of power, Mubarak may still be able to influence the Army officials running the country, through the financial connections that made them all wealthy. And if not Mubarak, the next leader may be poised to start lining his pockets the same way Mubarak did. For Egypt to have a more effective, transparent economy, all of that will have to be cleaned up. There are probably a lot of people in Cairo who have been checking their bank balances lately.

JARINGAN Green Earth Campaign Series

Start Young:
Be an Example for the Young Generations in Making the Earth a Better Place to Live

We can teach our children how to love nature and how important it is to safeguard the world to enjoy their life at a young age. We can avoid destroying the earth for our lives is uncertain, it is not our permanent property for us to treat as we wish. We are only sharing and we must try to keep it safe for our next generations. Parents are the role model for children and so the more practice parents have on recycling, the more likely children will hold the lesson and apply it throughout their lives.

More and more people become aware of the importance of recycling and if we practice these issues personally and seriously, we can help the earth, and help ourselves. We can reduce the cost of living and help our children learn that with a little creativity and some thought, they can make a difference

Few tips on how your child learn early the value of recycling and find opportunities to recycle and reuse items:

Plastic Bags

That you get from supermarket, hypermarket or stores, pharmacies can be used to store dirty clothes when you travel and also to dump waste at home, or to wrap a dirty diaper or pads so they can be dispose properly. You can also use these to keep a set of clean clothes in your luggage or the trunk of your car so that it does not get wet even if there is heavy rain when you travel from place to place.

Carton boxes

Can be saved for the kids’ arts and craft activities. And also can be made into a beautiful gift boxes with used wrapping paper and ribbon.

Ribbons

Are excellent for reuse, what the children get from your birthday or Christmas gift packing can be made as attractive bow or hair ribbon.

Old Clothes

Can be donated to charity homes, or to less fortunate person you know in your communities. Collect them in a box or bag and let your child play with their friends for Halloweens or Snow White play etc.

Printer Paper, Copy Paper and/or Old Letters or Pages

Your child can use them to draw pictures, jot down notes when doing homework, and bind them together for rough books or to practice maths.

Pages from a Newspaper or Magazines

Can be use to create a school project, and/or cut out the interesting informative page that you want to share with others or use to wrap unrefrigerated vegetables.

Glass Jars or Old Vases

Can be use to grow seedlings, some small flower plants or food.

There are various ways you come across to teach your children. Be creative, anything you can think of to recycle. When you recycle involve the children even if it's just by telling them you recycled something. Of course, you won't tell them every time, but make sure they know you're finding ways to recycle and make sure you listen when they have ideas of their own.
