Person Of The Year 2009
South African Judge, Richard Goldstone.
He laid the foundation for the prosecution of the Israeli war criminals, including political leaders (Ehud Olmert, Ehud Barak, and Tzipi Livni) together with the Israeli Generals who planned and launched the Israeli war of aggression on Gaza in December 2008 and January 2009. In that war of aggression, Israeli political and military leaders committed war crimes and crimes against humanity. About 1,400 Palestinians were killed and about 5,000 were injured. The overwhelming majority of them were civilians. About half of those killed were children.
Judge Richard Goldstone headed a UN Committee investigating the Israeli war crimes. He was courageous enough to present his Committee's finding to the public and to the UN, while most international organizations and governments withheld their condemnation or even criticism to the Israeli savagery.
Judge Richard Goldstone has stood unique in his courage and moral standards, pointing the finger against the savagery, injustice, and war crimes committed by the Israeli spoiled child of the Zionist Empire.

Building Bridges of Respect
The Star 29/11/09
In multi-religious Malaysia, people of different beliefs are reaching out to each other to foster better understanding and friendship.
On Malaysia Day, the Open Hearts and Mind Study Institute and the International Institute of Advanced Islamic Studies (IAIS) co-organised a closed-door dialogue between Muslims and Christians.
At that session, Islamic Information & Services Foundation (IIS) chief dakwah officer Shah Kirit Kakulal Govindji shared something odd. Odd, that is, in light of the continuing controversy over whether Muslims can wish their friends on the occasion of their religious celebrations, visit them or even invite them to a mosque.
The IIS takes Muslims on visits to churches and temples; they attend the service, dialogue, and share a meal with their Christian, Hindu or Buddhist hosts.
During the buka puasa after the dialogue on Sept 16, this writer asked Shah Kirit whether he had taken his group to an Eastern church service. When he said no, I suggested they visit the St Thomas Mar Thoma Church in Kuala Lumpur.
He said thanks and laughed when I said: “Come for an English service and your friends will not have to worry about seating arrangements because the women still generally sit on one side and the men on the other.”
Shah Kirit got in touch with Council of Churches Malaysia president Rev Dr Thomas Philips, the vice-president of the Mar Thoma Church (Malaysian Zone), and on Nov 22 brought a group of 50 for the Holy Qurbana (Communion) service at the church in Jalan St Thomas.
The service was at 10am, but they turned up at 8.45am when Rev Mothy Varkey, the vicar of the church, said there was a Bible Study session at 9am before the service.
During the service, many of them picked up the service book and followed the liturgy, which is in English with some chants in Malayalam and Syriac, and some even opened the Bible when passages were read out.
The service, in which the congregation also sang choruses in Bahasa Malaysia, was followed by a light tea, after which the visitors gathered back in the church for a dialogue.
There wasn’t much time for questions as they were expected at the Sri Lanka Buddhist Temple in Sentul for lunch and dialogue. But those who did ask showed they had been paying attention during the service and sermon.
One woman prefaced her question on the Holy Trinity with this: “I always thought that Christians worshipped three Gods. But from your service I realise that’s not true.”
One of the men told Rev Mothy that he found his sermon inspirational.
Later, a young adult member of the church said she hadn’t been sure what to expect when she heard there were going to be Muslim visitors.
“I certainly didn’t expect to see tudung-clad women coming for a communion service.
“I was a little confused as to what to say and do because I didn’t want to offend anyone but it was good they came,” she said.
A 16-year-old boy, who had acted as usher, said the visitors were friendly. “They went up to people and talked to them. They said they were not made to feel like strangers; it was nice to have them.”
Similarities and Differences
In an interview a few days later with Shah Kirit and Rev Mothy, Shah Kirit said the group was amazed by the hospitality shown to them at the church.
“They got a better understanding of Christianity,” he said. “They discovered not all of their assumptions were correct. They had more questions but there wasn’t enough time.”
The IIS, which has been around since 2002, was registered as a foundation a few years ago. Its efforts at building bridges are certainly meeting a need for inter-religious dialogue in Malaysia where religious sensitivities are taut at best.
Shah Kirit said the IIS strives to give a proper understanding of Islam, correct misinformation and disinformation in a just manner, promote unity among Muslims and bridge the gap between Muslims and those of other faiths and work together with the good people of the world of all faiths.
As such, the IIS reaches out to Muslim university students and young career people to expose them to the major religions in the world, especially the ones in Malaysia.
“Our programmes are geared towards exposing them to the basic beliefs of other religions – what are the similarities and the differences.
“When I first took a group to a church and temple, they were concerned that they would not be welcome, that there might be hostility."
“But after the visit, they were astonished at the welcome. It broke the barrier,” said Shah Kirit who is now trying to organise a visit to a mosque for the Mar Thoma church members.
On whether the misconceptions he’s come across among his group over the years are due to the lack of teaching or mis-teaching, he replied, “Both.”
“But we need to work carefully. Any change in a community has to be gradual. It cannot be forced.”
Establishing Dialogue
And what does he tell the Muslims in his programmes if they ask whether it is all right to wish a person of another faith during their religious celebration, or visit them?
“Islamic scholars are divided on this issue."
“Our Prime Ministers (all Muslims) have always wished Malaysians of all faith, showing they are Prime Minister to people of all faiths.”
He then tells them that while there are differing opinions, they must choose what they see is right, he added.
“My personal choice is this. My mother is a Hindu and every Deepavali I visit her. I spend time with her. I will even send her to the temple but I do not participate in the worship. It is not appropriate that my mother should take a bus by herself to go to the temple."
“When you visit your neighbours during Deepavali or Christmas, it is to establish a bonding."
“I tell them also, when you visit, to ask their friends why they celebrate their festival so you get a better understanding. They may also ask you about Islam. That is how we establish dialogue.”
And is there any fear among the group that they may be “converted” by their exposure?
“No, I take mature Muslims on visits to other places of worship, those who have been coming to our programmes for a year."
“When we go on these visits, it is to understand other faiths. We embrace the similarities and agree to disagree on the differences, not fight each other.”
While this was Shah Kirit’s first visit to a Mar Thoma Church, having Muslims at his service was also a first for Rev Mothy, an Indian citizen here on a work visa.
Asked whether he has visited any mosque in Kerala, Rev Mothy said no. “In Central Travancore, where I live, the people are predominantly Hindus and Christians.
“There is no mosque in my area. I haven’t had the opportunity to have inter-religious dialogue with people from the Islamic faith. This is the first time. I’ve had fellowship with Hindu friends and visited temples but no inter-religious dialogue.”
Rev Mothy said the people in Kerala are more understanding and are into inter-religious fellowship but this equation has been disrupted since the advent of the charismatic, independent churches.
“Tolerance has gone down because they are more aggressive, less inclusive and less tolerant even towards Christian denominations,” he said.
Shah Kirit, a proponent of dialogue but not debate, which he says is about one side winning, is already making plans for future meetings.
“When you spoke that day I could see we can have a future in dialogue. You’re objective.
“When we’re more comfortable with each other, maybe we could have a more serious discussion on our respective faiths; no censorship,” he told Rev Mothy who replied, “That’s a good idea.”
Nov 22 was certainly a day for building bridges. Maybe, just maybe, we can bring down the walls of bigotry in people of all faiths and build bridges of respect and compassion instead.

Ibu Bapa | Tanggungjawab Kita

Teknik Baru Perompak Mesin ATM
Wassalam.

Safety Tips
- Tip from Tae Kwon Do : The elbow is the strongest point on your body. If you are close enough to use it, do!
- Learned this from a tourist guide. If a robber asks for your wallet/purse, DO NOT HAND IT TO HIM. Toss it away from you.... Chances are that he is more interested in your wallet/purse than you, and he will go for the wallet/purse. RUN LIKE MAD IN THE OTHER DIRECTION!
- If you are ever thrown into the trunk of a car, kick out the back tail lights and stick your arm out the hole and start waving like crazy. The driver won't see you, but everybody else will. This has saved lives.
- Women have a tendency to get into their cars after shopping, eating, working, etc., and just sit (doing their chequebook, or making a list, etc. DON'T DO THIS!) The predator will be watching you, and this is the perfect opportunity for him to get in on the passenger side, put a gun to your head, and tell you where to go. AS SOON AS YOU GET INTO YOUR CAR , LOCK THE DOORS AND LEAVE.. If someone is in the car with a gun to your head DO NOT DRIVE OFF, Repeat: DO NOT DRIVE OFF! Instead gun the engine and speed into anything, wrecking the car. Your Air Bag will save you. If the person is in the back seat they will get the worst of it. As soon as the car crashes bail out and run. It is better than having them find your body in a remote location.
- A few notes about getting into your car in a parking lot, or parking garage: A.) Beware: look around you, look into your car, at the passenger side floor , and in the back seat B.) If you are parked next to a big van, enter your car from the passenger door. Most serial killers attack their victims by pulling them into their vans while the women are attempting to get into their cars. C.) Look at the car parked on the driver's side of your vehicle, and the passenger side. If a male is sitting alone in the seat nearest your car, you may want to walk back into the mall, or work, and get a guard/policeman to walk you back out. IT IS ALWAYS BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY. (And better paranoid than dead.)
- ALWAYS take the elevator instead of the stairs. Stairwells are horrible places to be alone and the perfect crime spot. This is especially true at NIGHT!)
- If the predator has a gun and you are not under his control, ALWAYS RUN! The predator will only hit you (a running target) 4 in 100 times; and even then, it most likely WILL NOT be a vital organ. RUN, Preferably in a zig -zag pattern!
- As women, we are always trying to be sympathetic: STOP It may get you raped, or killed.. Ted Bundy, the serial killer, was a good-looking, well educated man, who ALWAYS played on the sympathies of unsuspecting women. He walked with a cane, or a limp, and often asked 'for help' into his vehicle or with his vehicle which is when he abducted his next victim.
- Another Safety Point: Someone just told me that her friend heard a crying baby on her porch the night before last, and she called the police because it was late and she thought it was weird. The police told her 'Whatever you do, DO NOT open the door.' The lady then said that it sounded like the baby had crawled near a window, and she was worried that it would crawl to the street and get run over. The policeman said, 'We already have a unit on the way, whatever you do, DO NOT open the door!' He told her that they think a serial killer has a baby's cry recorded and uses it to coax women out of their homes thinking that someone dropped off a baby. He said they have not verified it, but have had several calls by women saying that they hear baby's cries outside their doors when they're home alone at night.
- Water scam! If you wake up in the middle of the night to hear all your taps outside running or what you think is a burst pipe, DO NOT GO OUT TO INVESTIGATE! These people turn on all your outside taps full ball so that you will go out to investigate and then attack. Stay alert, keep safe, and look out for your neighbours!
Eventhough this message originally came from the USA they are tips worth considering, especially for women. So, we urge the readers to pass this on. The Crying Baby Theory was mentioned on America 's Most Wanted when they profiled the serial killer in Louisiana. It may save a life. A candle is not dimmed by lighting another candle. This message is not meant for ladies only, but guys, if you love your mothers, wives, sisters, daughters, etc., you may want to pass it onto them, as well. Send this to any woman you know that may need to be reminded that the world we live in has a lot of crazies in it and it's better to be safe than sorry.
This is a community service message brought to you by Jaringan Komuniti Islam, Bandar Sri Damansara.

Briefing on the National RFID Roadmap
RFID requires two components, a tag that is attached to an object (e.g. trade item, package and pallet) and a reader. A tag consists of a chip that contains identifying information about the object to which it is attached and an antenna to communicate that information via radio waves. A reader creates a radio frequency field that detects radio waves. When a tag passes through a radio frequency field generated by a compatible reader, the tag reflects back to the reader the identifying information about the object to which it is attached, thus identifying the object. The advent of RFID has given the companies the benefit of increased visibility in their supply chain.
GS1 Malaysia in collaboration with the Suruhanjaya Komunikasi dan Multimedia Malaysia (SKMM or Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission Malaysia (MCMC)) is organising a briefing on the National RFID Roadmap. The purpose of the briefing is to present the state of readiness of RFID technology in the country, why RFID technology is important and the steps the government are undertaking to build the industry’s readiness towards RFID Technology.

Kisah Benar
Maafkan saya, cikgu" jawabnya. "Kenapa kamu tak beritahu cikgu dan kenapa kamu biarkan saja cikgu pukul kamu?". Mak pesan, jangan meminta2 pada orang, jangan ceritakan kemiskinan kita pada orang. Kalau cikgu nak pukul serahkan saja punggung kamu.
- Solat sunat
- Puasa sunat
- Berzikir
- Bersedekah
- Mengusap rambut anak yatim
- Mendengar cerita2 kesusahan orang lain
- Membantu orang susah
Terima kasih Dr Mahmood diatas sumbangan artikel diatas. Sama-sama kita ambil iktibar dari cerita tersebut. Wassalam.

Report: Global Muslim population hits 1.57 billion
The global Muslim population stands at 1.57 billion, meaning that nearly 1 in 4 people in the world practice Islam, according to a report Wednesday billed as the most comprehensive of its kind.
The Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life report provides a precise number for a population whose size has long has been subject to guesswork, with estimates ranging anywhere from 1 billion to 1.8 billion.
The project, three years in the making, also presents a portrait of the Muslim world that might surprise some. For instance, Germany has more Muslims than Lebanon, China has more Muslims than Syria, Russia has more Muslims than Jordan and Libya combined, and Ethiopia has nearly as many Muslims as Afghanistan.
"This whole idea that Muslims are Arabs and Arabs are Muslims is really just obliterated by this report," said Amaney Jamal, an assistant professor of politics at Princeton University who reviewed an advance copy.
Pew officials call the report the most thorough on the size and distribution of adherents of the world's second largest religion behind Christianity, which has an estimated 2.1 billion to 2.2 billion followers.
The arduous task of determining the Muslim populations in 232 countries and territories involved analyzing census reports, demographic studies and general population surveys, the report says. In cases where the data was a few years old, researchers projected 2009 numbers.
The report also sought to pinpoint the world's Sunni-Shiite breakdown, but difficulties arose because so few countries track sectarian affiliation, said Brian Grim, the project's senior researcher.
As a result, the Shiite numbers are not as precise; the report estimates that Shiites represent between 10 and 13 percent of the Muslim population, in line with or slightly lower than other studies. As much as 80 percent of the world's Shiite population lives in four countries: Iran, Pakistan, India and Iraq.
The report provides further evidence that while the heart of Islam might beat in the Middle East, its greatest numbers lie in Asia: More than 60 percent of the world's Muslims live in Asia.
About 20 percent live in the Middle East and North Africa, 15 percent live in Sub-Saharan Africa, 2.4 percent are in Europe and 0.3 percent are in the Americas. While the Middle East and North Africa have fewer Muslims overall than Asia, the region easily claims the most Muslim-majority countries.
While those population trends are well established, the large numbers of Muslims who live as minorities in countries aren't as scrutinized. The report identified about 317 million Muslims — or one-fifth of the world's Muslim population — living in countries where Islam is not the majority religion.
About three-quarters of Muslims living as minorities are concentrated in five countries: India (161 million), Ethiopia (28 million), China (22 million), Russia (16 million) and Tanzania (13 million).
In several of these countries — from India to Nigeria and China to France — divisions featuring a volatile mix of religion, class and politics have contributed to tension and bloodshed among groups.
The immense size of majority-Hindu India is underscored by the fact that it boasts the third-largest Muslim population of any nation — yet Muslims account for just 13 percent of India's population.
"Most people think of the Muslim world being Muslims living mostly in Muslim-majority countries," Grim said. "But with India ... that sort of turns that on its head a bit."
Among the report's other highlights:
• Two-thirds of all Muslims live in 10 countries. Six are in Asia (Indonesia, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Iran and Turkey), three are in North Africa (Egypt, Algeria and Morocco) and one is in sub-Saharan Africa (Nigeria).
• Indonesia, which has a tradition of a more tolerant Islam, has the world's largest Muslim population (203 million, or 13 percent of the world's total). Religious extremists have been involved in several high-profile bombings there in recent years.
• In China, the highest concentrations of Muslims were in western provinces. The country experienced its worst outbreak of ethnic violence in decades when rioting broke out this summer between minority Muslim Uighurs and majority Han Chinese.
• Europe is home to about 38 million Muslims, or about five percent of its population. Germany appears to have more than 4 million Muslims — almost as many as North and South America combined. In France, where tensions have run high over an influx of Muslim immigrant laborers, the overall numbers were lower but a larger percentage of the population is Muslim.
• Of roughly 4.6 million Muslims in the Americas, more than half live in the United States although they only make up 0.8 percent of the population there. About 700,000 people in Canada are Muslim, or about 2 percent of the total population.
A future Pew Forum project, scheduled to be released in 2010, will build on the report's data to estimate growth rates among Muslim populations and project future trends.

Petua Dari PDRM
6. Bawa alarm kereta bersama semasa tidur, in case terjaga tengah malam, cuba on and offkan balik untuk menakutkan pencuri (Menandakan kita sentiasa alert).
8. Sekiranya terlihat orang-orang yang agak aneh dan asing di kawasan rumah anda, sila dapatkan plet no motor/kereta mereka (Selalunya naik motor dan mereka ni biasanya berdua, setiap kali kita lalu depan mereka, mereka akan menundukkan kepala).
Sekian. Wassalam.

FACEBOOK...behind the scene

Segalanya Kerana Niat
Menjelang ramadhan setiap kita berusaha meningkatkan pembersihan jiwanya.
Justeru dalam hadis daripada Umar bin al-Khattab r.a, beliau berkata: Rasulullah s.a.w bersabda:
Dr Yusuf al-Qaradawi pula menyebut:
Niat ini adalah amalan hati semata. Bukan amalan lidah.
“Semua amalan anak Adam untuknya, melainkan puasa.

(Hadis Riwayat Muslim).
Huraian:
Setiap umat Islam dikehendaki mengambil berat didalam melakukan amal ibadatnya termasuklah ibadat sembahyang.
Azan kedua dikumandangkan ketika masuk waktu Subuh.
Syaitan Lari!
Dari Abu Hurairah r.a. katanya Nabi s.a.w bersabda: "Apabila dikumandangkan azan untuk solat, syaitan lari terkentut-kentut sehingga tidak terdengar olehnya azan. Apabila muazzin berhenti, ia pun kembali. Begitu pula apabila qamat dibacakan, dia pun lari.
Menjawab azan
Menjawab azan hukumnya sunat. Ini berdasarkan dalil (dengan satu perbuatan Nabi SAW), ketika mana baginda mendengar tukang azan melaungkan takbir, baginda bersabda, "(kamu berada) atas Fitrah." Ketika baginda mendengar syahadah, baginda bersabda, "Kamu selamat daripada neraka." (Hadis Riwayat Muslim).
1, ms. 428]
(Hadis Sahih riwayat Muslim)
Dari Sa'ad bin Abu Waqqash r.a., Rasulullah SAW bersabda, "Siapa yang mendengar muadzin menyerukan azan, lalu dia mengucapkan: 'Asyhadu alla ilaaha illallah wahdahu lasyarikalah, wa anna Muhammadan 'abduhu wa rasuluhu, radhitu billahi rabban, wa bi Muhammadin rasulan, wa bil Islami dinan' (Aku mengaku tidak ada Tuhan selain Allah, satu-satunya-Nya, tidak ada sekutu bagi-Nya dan bahwa Muhammad hamba-Nya dan Rasul-Nya aku suka Allah menjadi tuhanku, Muhammad sebagai Rasul dan Islam jadi agamaku) maka diampuni Allah dosa-dosanya." (Hadis Sahih riwayat Muslim)
Doa selepas Azan
(Hadis riwayat Bukhari)
Lafaz azan ketika hari hujan
Kata Ibnu 'Abbas, "Mengapa anda sekalian menyalahkannya?
(Hadis riwayat Al-Bukhari no 632, no 666, Muslim no 697)
(Hadis Sahih riwayat An-Nasai no 653)
(Hadis riwayat Muslim no 697)
Sewaktu hujan, muadzin boleh memilih salah satu dari tiga lafaz tambahan azan di atas lalu diletakkan pada salah satu dari tiga posisi berikut; setelah selesai azan, menggantikan tempat kalimat Hayya ‘Alas Shalâh, atau setelah kalimat Hayya ‘alash shalah – hayya ‘alal falah.
Adab mendengar azan

20 Common Mistakes Made During Ramadan
Most Muslims who fast Ramadan focus on the benefits and rewards of it. But in doing so, we often make mistakes that instead of adding to our experience actually detract from it. Mistakes that can make us commercialize Ramadan as so many other religions have commercialized their sacred days. Insha Allah the following serves as a reminder to myself first and to all Muslims. May Allah help us to spend our time wisely this Ramadan and help us to avoid these mistakes. Aameen!
1. Taking Ramadaan as a ritual
For many of us Ramadaan has lost its spirituality and has become more of a ritual than a form of Ibaadah. We fast from morning to night like a zombie just because everyone around us is fasting too. We forget that its a time to purify our hearts and our souls from all evil….we forget to make dua, forget to beseech Allaah to forgive us and ask Him to save us from the Fire. Sure we stay away from food and drink but that's about all.
Although the Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam) said:
'Jibreel said to me, 'May Allaah rub his nose in the dust, that person to who Ramadaan comes and his sins are not forgiven,' and I said, 'Aameen'. Then he said, 'May Allaah rub his nose in the dust, that person who lives to see his parents grow old, one or both of them, but he does not enter Paradise (by not serving them) and I said, 'Aameen'. Then he said, 'May Allaah rub his nose in the dust, that person in whose presence you are mentioned and he does not send blessings upon you,' and I said, 'Aameen.'' (Tirmidhi, Ahmad, others. Saheeh by al-Albaani)
2. Too much stress on food and drink
For some people, the entire month of Ramadaan revolves around food. They spend the ENTIRE day planning, cooking, shopping and thinking about only food, instead of concentrating on Salaah, Quraan and other acts of worship. All they can think of is FOOD. So much so that they turn the month of 'fasting' into the month of 'feasting'. Come Iftaar time, their table is a sight to see, with the multitudes and varieties of food, sweets and drinks.. They are missing the very purpose of fasting, and thus, increase in their greed and desires instead of learning to control them. It is also a kind of waste & extravagance.
'…..and eat and drink but waste not by extravagance, certainly He (Allaah) likes not Al-Musrifoon (those who waste by extravagance) ' [al-Araaf :31]
3. Spending all day cooking
Some of the sisters (either by their own choice or forced by their husbands) are cooking ALL day and ALL night, so that by the end of the day, they are too tired to even pray Ishaa, let alone pray Taraweeh or Tahajjud or even read Quraan. This is the month of mercy and forgiveness. So turn off that stove and turn on your Imaan!
4. Eating too much
Some people stuff themselves at Suhoor until they are ready to burst, because they think this is the way to not feel hungry during the day and some people eat at Iftaar, like there is no tomorrow, trying to 'make up for the food missed.' However, this is completely against the Sunnah. Moderation is the key to everything.
The Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam) said: 'The son of Adam does not fill any vessel worse than his stomach; for the son of Adam a few mouthfuls are sufficient to keep his back straight. If you must fill it, then one-third for food, one-third for drink and one-third for air.' (Tirmidhi, Ibn Maajah. saheeh by al-Albaani).
Too much food distracts a person from many deeds of obedience and worship, makes him lazy and also makes the heart heedless.
It was said to Imam Ahmad: Does a man find any softness and humility in his heart when he is full? He said, I do not think so.
5. Sleeping all day
Some people spend their entire day (or a major part of it) 'sleeping away their fast'. Is this what is really required of us during this noble month? These people also are missing the purpose of fasting and are slaves to their desires of comfort and ease. They cannot 'bear' to be awake and face a little hunger or exert a little self-control. For a fasting person to spend most of the day asleep is nothing but, negligence on his part.
6. Wasting time
The month of Ramadaan is a precious, precious time, so much so that Allaah calls this month 'Ayyamum Ma'doodaat' (A fixed number of days). Before we know it, this month of mercy and forgiveness will be over. We should try and spend every moment possible in the worship of Allaah so that we can make the most of this blessing. However, there are some of us who waste away their day playing video games, or worse still, watching TV, movies or even listening to music. Subha an Allaah! Trying to obey Allaah by DISOBEYING him!
7. Fasting but not giving up evil
Some of us fast but do not give up lying, cursing, fighting, backbiting, etc. and some of us fast but do not give up cheating, stealing, dealing in haraam, buying lotto tickets, selling alcohol, fornication, etc. and all kinds of impermissible things without realizing that the purpose of fasting is to not stay away from food and drink; rather the aim behind it is to fear Allaah.
'O you who believe! Fasting is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may become Al-Muttaqoon (the pious)' [al-Baqarah 2:183]
The Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam) said: 'Whoever does not give up false speech and acting upon it, and ignorance, Allaah has no need of him giving up his food and drink.' (Bukhaari)
8. Skipping Suhoor (sehri)
The Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam) said: 'Eat suhoor for in suhoor there is blessing.'(Bukhaari, Muslim).
And he (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam) said: 'The thing that differentiates between our fasting and the fasting of the People of the Book is eating suhoor.' (Muslim)
9. Stopping Suhoor at 'Imsaak'
Some people stop eating Suhoor 10-15 minutes earlier than the time of Fajr to observe 'Imsaak'.
Shaykh Ibn 'Uthaymeen said: This is a kind of bid’ah (innovation) which has no basis in the Sunnah. Rather the Sunnah is to do the opposite. Allaah allows us to eat until dawn: 'and eat and drink until the white thread (light) of dawn appears to you distinct from the black thread (darkness of night)' [al-Baqarah 2:187]
And the Prophet (pbuh) said: '….eat and drink until you hear the adhaan of Ibn Umm Maktoom, for he does not give the adhaan until dawn comes.'
This 'imsaak' which some of the people do is an addition to what Allaah has prescribed, so it is false. It is a kind of extremism in religion, and the Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam) said:
'Those who go to extremes are doomed, those who go to extremes are doomed, those who go to extremes are doomed.' (Muslim)
10. Not fasting if they missed Suhoor
Some people are too scared to fast if they miss Suhoor. However, this is a kind of cowardice and love of ease. What is the big deal if you missed a few morsels of food? It's not like you will die. Remember, obedience to Allaah overcomes everything.
Saying the intention to fast 'out loud' or saying a specific dua to start fasting:
The intention is an action of the heart. We should resolve in our heart that we are going to fast tomorrow. That is all we need. It is not prescribed by the Shari'ah for us to say out loud, 'I intend to fast', 'I will fast tomorrow' or other phrases that have been innovated by some people. Also, there is no specific dua to be recited at the time of starting the fast in the correct Sunnah. Whatever 'dua' you may see on some papers or Ramadaan calendars, etc. is a Bid'ah.
11. Delaying opening fast
Some people wait until the adhaan finishes or even several minutes after that, just to be 'on the safe side'. However, the Sunnah is to hasten to open the fast, which means opening the fast the moment the sun sets. Aa'ishah (RA) said: This is what the Messenger of Allaah (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam) used to do. (Muslim)
The Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam) said: 'The people will continue to do well so long as they hasten to open the fast.' (Bukhaari, Muslim)
Inspite of the above Hadith being so clear, the Azaan in many of the mosques is given 5 minutes after sunset. You can check the newspaper everyday and see the exact time of sunset that is mentioned there. You can also check it on the net and then check for yourself when the Azaan is given).
Determine to the best of your ability, the accuracy of your clock, calendar, etc. and then have tawakkul (trust) on Allaah swt and break your fast exactly on time.
12. Eating continuously until the time for Maghrib is up
Some people put so much food in their plates when breaking their fast and continue eating, enjoying dessert, drinking tea, etc., until they miss Maghrib. That is obviously not right. The Sunnah of the Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam) was that once he broke his fast with some dates, he would hasten to the prayer. Once you are done with the prayer, you can always go back and eat some more if you wish.
13. Missing the golden chance of having your Dua accepted
The prayer of the fasting person is guaranteed to be accepted at the time of breaking fast.
The Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam) said: 'Three prayers are not rejected: the prayer of a father, the prayer of a fasting person, and the prayer of a traveler.' (al-Bayhaqi, saheeh by al-Albaani).
Instead of sitting down and making Dua at this precious time, some people forego this beautiful chance, and are too busy frying samosas, talking, setting the food, filling their plates and glasses, etc. Think about it….Is food more important than the chance to have your sins forgiven or the fulfillment of your Duas.
14. Fasting but not praying
The fasting of one who does not pray WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. This is because not praying constitutes kufr as the Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam) said: 'Between a man and shirk and kufr there stands his giving up prayer.' (Muslim)
In fact, NONE of his good deeds will be accepted; rather, they are all annulled.
'Whoever does not pray 'Asr, his good deeds will be annulled.' (Bukhaari)
15. Fasting and not wearing Hijaab
Not wearing the Hijaab is a major sin as it is obligatory for Muslim women. (See Surah Nur, Surah Ahzaab). So fasting and not wearing hijaab certainly takes away enormously from the rewards of fasting, even if does not invalidate it.
16. Not fasting because of exams or work
Exams or work is NOT one of the excuses allowed by the Shariah to not fast. You can do your studying and revision at night if it is too hard to do that during the day. Also remember that pleasing and obeying Allaah is much more important than 'good grades'. Besides, if you will fulfill your obligation to fast, even if you have to study, Allaah will make it easy for you and help you in everything you do.
'Whosoever fears Allah, He will appoint for him a way out and provide for him from where he does not expect, Allaah is Sufficient for whosoever puts his trust in Him.' (Surah at-Talaaq 2-3)
17. Mixing fasting and dieting
DO NOT make the mistake of fasting with the intention to diet. That is one of the biggest mistakes some of us make (esp. sisters). Fasting is an act of worship and can only be for the sake of Allaah alone. Otherwise, mixing it with the intention of dieting may become a form of (minor) Shirk.
18. Praying ONLY on the night of the 27th
Some people pray ONLY on the 27th to seek Lailat ul-Qadr, neglecting all other odd nights, although the Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam) said: 'Seek Lailat ul-Qadr among the odd numbered nights of the last ten nights of Ramadaan.' (Bukhaari, Muslim).
19. Wasting the last part of Ramadaan preparing for Eid
Some people waste the entire last 10 days of Ramadaan preparing for Eid, shopping and frequenting malls, etc. neglecting Ibadah and Lailatul Qadr. although, the Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam) used to strive the hardest during the last ten days of Ramadaan in worship (Ahmad, Muslim) and not in shopping. Buy whatever you need for Eid, buy before Ramadaan so that you can utilize the time in Ramadaan to the max..
Aa'ishah (RA) said: 'When the (last) ten nights began, the Messenger of Allaah (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam)) would tighten his waist-wrapper (i.e., strive hard in worship or refrain from intimacy with his wives), stay awake at night and wake his family.' (Bukhaari and Muslim).
20. Iftaar parties
Although inviting each other for breaking fast is something good and encouraged, some people go to extremes with lavish 'Iftaar parties' with all sorts of disobedience to Allaah, from flirting, mixing of the sexes and hijaab-less women, to show-off and extravagance, to heedlessness to Salaah and Taraweeh. Some even resort to music and dancing.
It's not too late to rectify ones mistake and do good for the sake of Allaah.
